CAN Percussion Trio
Brace yourself for the polyrhythmic delights of the CAN Percussion Trio with celebrated Irish percussionist Noel Eccles joined by two young masters of the mallet, Chris Stynes and Alex Petcu, in a thrilling programme of contemporary music, played on a range of percussion instruments including marimbas, vibraphones, crotales, lion drums, taiko, tom toms, bass drums and more.
Exotic timbres, pulsing rhythms and interlocking melody lines of a percussion ensemble at full tilt is a sound unlike any other. Add to this the positively viral energy of the CAN percussion trio and you are in for a real treat. It’s the brainchild of Noel Eccles, musical director of the first Riverdance tour, member of folk-rock titans Moving Hearts, former principal percussionist with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and go-to guy for a host of luminaries including U2, Elvis Costello, The Chieftains, Brian Eno and Elmer Bernstein.
Trading blows with Noel are Chris Stynes and Alex Petcu, two of Ireland’s rising percussionists. Both have performed regularly with many of Ireland's leading professional groups, playing everything from contemporary and classical music to musical theatre, rock and pop. With a repertoire spanning everything from Bach to Steve Reich, and the strangest line up of instruments you’ll see this year, expect a few surprises!
Riverbank Arts Centre is delighted to announce that Noel Eccles will lead a percussion workshop from 4-6pm on Thursday June 14th in advance of the CAN Percussion Trio Concert.
