Southern Tenant Folk Union
The most highly acclaimed folk/bluegrass band in the UK today, Southern Tenant Folk Union have recently released their fourth album ‘Pencaitland’ and since starting out in 2006 they’ve toured their exciting live show all over the UK, Ireland, Netherlands & Germany.
A seven piece all acoustic band with banjo, mandolin, fiddle & harmony vocals the STFU perform with ’soul & beauty’ on their murder ballads & laments and tear it up with their ’Hootenanny sawdust-kickers’ and high energy sound. If you love folk/bluegrass, you will fall in love with this electrically live band.
Supporting STFU are The Blood Red Mountain Band: Formed in a cellar during a howling storm, The Blood Reds have been popping up at festivals all over Ireland for the last couple of years. In 2010 they were awarded the accolade of BEST MUSICAL GROUP by the Irish festivals umbrella group AOIFE. Since then they have been hard at work on their debut album.
They have graced the stage of such venues as Vicar St; Dolan’s, Limerick; Whelan and The Village in Dublin on several occasions and their thrice yearly gigs at The Cobblestone are always sold out. Their influences are The Band, Arcade Fire, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Ryan Adams and The Flaming Lips. Their homely line up of country fiddle, rockabilly guitar and boogie-woogie piano/bass/drums take the listener home to songs they feel they know in their bones, with
harmonies to die for.
