A fabulous ghost-infested adventure full of action, suspense, bizarre creatures and compelling human characters, Spirited Away is the pinnacle of animated fantasy. In the middle of her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where humans are changed into animals; and a bathhouse for these creatures. Miyazaki’s technique as an artist involves taking a child’s primal wish, transporting kids to a fantasy world they cannot escape.
The highest grossing film of all time in Japan, this is the another fantastical creation by animation master Hayao Miyazaki.
The film received many awards, including the second Oscar ever awarded for Best Animated Feature, the first anime film to win an Academy Award, and the first (and so far only) non- English speaking animation to win.
The film also won the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival and is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.
