The Music Makers
The Music Makers is a performance celebrating the creativity and sill involved in traditional music-making, right through from the crafting of musical instruments to the performance of traditional music itself.
In summer 2011 film-maker Myles O’Reilly visited the workshops of four instrument makers to record them at work. The resulting instruments were placed in the hands of four superb traditional musicians, edited film of the craftsmen was added and the result is a celebration of music making from tree to note.
Throughout the show you will glimpse violin maker Graham Wright, bow maker Gary Leahy, mandolin and guitar maker Brian Lofthouse and uilleann pipes maker John Butler carve, plane, bend, stretch and glue with patience and skill while the instruments they created are plucked, bowed, strummed and played with equal skill by musicians Julie Langan, Finbarr Naughton, Brian Lofthouse and John Butler.
