Childhood can be a confusing time, especially when big changes are afoot. Whether it’s starting a new school, welcoming a new little brother or sister, or moving house, such moments can lead to some big questions – who am I? What am I doing here? Will I fit in? Where do I belong? These are the very addresses that artist Andrew Whitson addresses in his new picture book Cogito, which forms the foundation of this brand new exhibition for the Riverbank Children’s Gallery. Drawing on themes of identity and new beginnings, this show will incorporate work produced by local school children as part of special series of workshops, an ever-evolving garden of garden of words and pictures, filled with strange and wonderful plants and creatures. A selection of Andrew’s fine art and award-winning illustration spanning a 20 year career, including brand new artwork from Cogito, will also be on display.
