Kildare Youth Theatre’s production of Macbeth is a celebration of community casting. It is performed by international artists living in Newbridge and volunteering with Crooked House Theatre Company. They come from Egypt, Greece, Türkiye, Tunisia, Spain, Italy, France. English is not their first language, and their accents are native.
They are joined onstage by young Irish performers from Kildare Youth Theatre who are studying the play at school.
Macbeth is played by young Turkish actor Halit Kayacan. The show is directed by Peter Hussey.
It is in modern dress. The references in scenes are to contemporary politics, public presentations of power, and should evoke comparisons with Putin, Netanyahu, Kim Jong Un, and dictators past and present.
Kildare Youth Theatre members are available to attend schools in advance of the performance to give a talk to visiting classes.
Performances take place on Tuesday 13-Thursday 15 May, 11am. Public evening performances are also available at 7pm on Tuesday 13 & Wednesday 14 May.
