Korean-American Jin travels to Columbus, Indiana after his estranged father falls into a coma. While there, he meets Casey – a 19-year-old who has found herself reluctantly stuck in her hometown. Together they begin to explore Columbus, which is full of buildings from world-renowned modern architects. As a friendship forms and the conversations grow ever more intense, both Jin and Casey begin to confront their own frustrations with life…

There are hints of Lost in Translation and the Before… trilogy in Columbus, but this is very much its own beautiful and unique film. Director Kogonada has a deep understanding of the language of cinema, making this one of the most remarkable American debut features of recent years.
