Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge is the Kildare Partner of Fighting Words. We present creative writing workshops for primary and secondary schools. Fighting Words workshops are always free of charge to the participants.
Upcoming Fighting Words workshops for SECONDARY SCHOOLS hosted by Riverbank Arts Centre:
Thursday, 26th November 10:30am-12:30pm
Friday, 4th December 10:30am-12:30pm
Friday, 11th December 10:30am-12:30pm
These workshops will be conducted via ZOOM or Microsoft Teams by an experienced Fighting Words tutor, Pierina Campbell, and supported by 2-3 volunteers from Riverbank’s Fighting Words team. The workshop will last 2 hours and we request that the teacher is present throughout. If this is your first time hosting an online workshop in your classroom, technical assistance can be provided.
What to expect?
When a class takes part in a Fighting Words workshop, they spend the first part of the time working together as a group. Facilitated by a moderator, they create the plot for an original story through role play and improvisation. They then work together in smaller groups, developing characters, setting and plot, adding dialogue and editing as they go. Each participant then has the opportunity to work on their own, individual pieces of writing, helped and encouraged by Fighting Words volunteer tutors. They will then be encouraged to read their stories aloud, if they wish – and the writing process and story elements will be discussed by the group.
Booking information
We can only accommodate one class for each workshop. Booking is essential and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Fighting Words workshops are always free of charge to the participants. To book a Fighting Words workshop, please contact Theresa – boxoffice@riverbank.ie
