Creative Schools artwork in our Foyer!
We’re delighted to have work created by children as part of Creative Schools projects in our foyer – come and see artwork by Kildangan National School, Naas Community National School and Scoil Uí Riada, Kilcock.
Congratulations to all the children, teachers and creative coordinators who took part in these projects!
Riverbank Arts Centre is open 10am-2pm, Monday-Friday and the Creative Schools projects are on display until 8th July.

“Over the past few weeks the children in Fifth class have been exploring the Famine in History. The class was then divided into groups and created a stop motion video on a topic which they found interesting relating to the Famine. The topics which they chose to explore included; coffin ships, immigration, eviction, blight on the potatoes, poaching for animals, famine relief schemes and two groups explored how the members of Choctaw Nation sent food to Ireland to aid the population during the Famine. The children worked collaboratively in groups of four to plan their projects, create the scenes, add dialogue and film their pieces.”

Quilt is a collaborative piece between the children in 4th class and a parent. The parent provided the outside layer and the children created the inside patchwork. The children in Scoil Uí Riada love exploring different art mediums. This is a selection of some artwork crafted and created by the children in 2nd, 4th and infant classes.

Creative Schools is a national programme which aims to put the arts and creativity at the heart of children’s and young people’s lives. In 2019, Alex Rosiak was appointed to the Creative Schools panel as a Creative Associate for two Kildare schools: Kildangan NS and Naas Community School. Participating schools work alongside a Creative Associate who helps them in developing their own Creative Schools plan to understand, foster and celebrate the arts and creativity in their school.
Alex has been working alongside school co-ordinators and local artists on projects involving animation, visual arts and performing arts with an aim of integrating arts into the schools’ annual planning and connecting them to the local network of arts and cultural infrastructure. as well as in creating long-term sustainable arts engagement plans for their classroom environment.
Creative Schools is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme to enable the creative potential of every child. Creative Schools is led by the Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Education and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media
