Inspired by Roland Barthes’s A Lover’s Discourse, Claire Denis teams up with writer Christine Angot to tell, in fragments, the romantic journey of Isabelle (Juliette Binoche), a sensitive, middle-aged, unhappily divorced artist and mother, as she moves from one lover to the next in search of definitive love.

Exquisitely lit by Denis’ long-standing cinematographer Agnès Godard, and with a constellation of star actors (Gérard Depardieu, Xavier Beauvois, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Bruno Podalydès), Isabelle’s quest for love unfolds with a delightful and uplifting finale.
