Dwelling by Caoimhe McGuckin
Friday 8th November, 2024 - 09:30 - Saturday 21st December, 2024 - 16:00
FreeThe house is more than bricks and mortar. It is ‘our first universe.’
‘Dwelling’ exhibition explores the art of worldmaking; a process that nurtures agency, belonging and selfhood where household objects are reimagined to reflect the simple yet profound nature of children’s daydreams.
With a focus on everyday spaces and objects that form the backdrop of childhood daydream and imagination, this exhibition invites us to see the familiar in a new light and emphasises the creative potential inherent in the mundane aspects of home life.
This work underscores the boundless creativity of children and highlights the importance of nurturing imaginative capacities within the spaces they inhabit daily.
‘Dwelling’ fosters an understanding that the house is not merely a physical structure but is instead a universe of endless possibilities.
‘Dwelling’ is co-commissioned by Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Council Arts Service.

About Caoimhe
Caoimhe McGuckin graduated from NCAD in 2017. In her work she makes use of objects of everyday use that function as carriers of meaning and memory. She creates work with a focus on narrative and concept. Objects facilitate the narrating of experience. In their physicality they provide material evidence and existence to ideas, thoughts, memories, stories and can be used for continuity of reflection and examination.
