WORKSHOP: Light and Time – A Journey into the Invention of Cinema and Photography
Tuesday 16th January, 2024 - 10:00
FreeJoin artist/photographer Brian Cregan on a guided tour of his collection of old cameras and optical toys. Pupils will get the chance to explore and examine ideas like the camera obscura and the invention of photography in a mini museum dedicated to the history of the still & moving image.
They will also learn about the significance of optical and animation toys – among them, the zoetrope and thaumatrope that entertained and amazed people in the 19th century. As part of the workshop experience, pupils will have the opportunity to make their own optical toy, gaining insight into the principles behind animation and the persistence of vision.
This workshop is suitable for 5th-6th Class.
The residency is supported by a YPCE Bursary from the Arts Council and Riverbank Arts Centre.
Workshops available Tuesday 16 – Friday 19 January, 10am & 12:30pm each day.
