THEATRE: Shackleton
Saturday 26th October, 2019 - 20:00
“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold… safe return doubtful.”
Shackleton tells the story of the sinking of the ship Endurance on the Antarctic’s icy Weddell Sea in 1916, and the subsequent escape of the Irish expedition leader Ernest Shackleton and his crew from the Antarctic over a period of eighteen months, finally arriving to safety at the whaling station in Stromness on the South Atlantic Island of South Georgia.
Born close to the village of Kilkea, in south Kildare in 1874, Ernest Shackleton is renowned for his immense contribution to exploration and geographical discovery. This visually spectacular retelling of one of the greatest survival tales ever is told by the acclaimed Blue Raincoat ensemble using original footage and scaled puppetry.
